Tirana International Airport

Since April 2005, the airport company Tirana International Airport SHPK (TIA), in which HOCHTIEF AirPort (HTA) has a 47 percent stake, has been responsible for operating Tirana International Airport. In line with HTA's corporate goals in the fields of environmental responsibility, good neighborhood relations and sustainability, TIA has undertaken to systematically implement international environment protection standards. Step by step, the international environmental management system in line with ISO 14 000 is to be introduced at Tirana Airport.

TIA will conduct annual audits to determine the progress being made in this field and the current status of its environmental management efforts.

The following measures are planned:
  • Improving air quality by optimizing ground traffic services and reducing kerosine vapors and emissions
  • Regular checks on the quality of the air
  • Construction of a facility on the airport site for treating waste water before it is fed into the nearby river
  • Treatment and utilization of rainwater
  • Waste avoidance and recycling
  • Noise measurements and, if required, the introduction of noise protection and noise reduction measures
