Sydney Airport: Devoted to being a sustainable business and a responsible member of the community

Since June 2002, HOCHTIEF AirPort holds a share in Australia's busiest airport. Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport has repeatedly received recognition from international air transport associations as the world's best international airport in its class for the high quality of its services.

The airport enjoys the privilege of occupying a site that is close to a vibrant, attractive city like Sydney. This clear advantage also carries obligations with regard to resource management and noise reduction.

Since 1999, the airport's managing team has been implementing a comprehensive five-year Environment Strategy which covers air, soil and water quality, ground-based noise, flora and fauna, heritage and native title, waste, resource use and sustainability, aesthetics and urban design.

Over the next five-year period (2005-2010), the present projects will be retained and the following new initiatives added:
  • protection of stocks of flora and fauna
  • creation and development of sustainable transport routes
  • waste reduction
  • establishing a Heritage Management Strategy to protect and preserve parts of the airport which are of historical significance
  • preparation for ISO 14001 environmental management accreditation
